Las Vegas: Where Your Money Disappears Faster Than a Free Casino Cocktail 🍸

Las Vegas is one of those places we keep going back to, even though every time we leave, we swear it’ll be “a while before the next trip.” And yet… there we were again.

First observation: Vegas is getting pricier every single time we visit. I don’t know if the slot machines are getting tighter or if we’re just getting wiser, but the money seems to disappear faster than ever. For example, we stopped at a bar and paid $30 for a drink. Thirty. Dollars. For. One. Drink. Then we went to a slot machine and dropped another $30… which vanished faster than throwing back a tequila shot. Honestly, the drink lasted longer than the gambling. Progress? Probably not.

Surprisingly Not That Crowded

What really surprised us this trip was how not busy Vegas felt. We were there during CONEXPO‑CON/AGG, which is one of the largest conventions in the world. If you’ve never heard of it, imagine tens of thousands of people who build big things gathering in one place...so naturally we expected chaos. But honestly? It didn’t feel nearly as crowded as some of our past trips. Maybe Vegas has just mastered the art of absorbing massive crowds without feeling like a sardine can.

Ditching the Strip (Sort Of)

Normally we stay at Caesars Palace because we’re loyal Caesars Rewards members.

But this time when we saw the room rates hovering around $700 a night, we suddenly discovered we weren’t quite that loyal. So we pivoted and stayed at the Renaissance Las Vegas Hotel, which sits right next to the convention center. Best decision ever. It’s about a five-minute walk to the Las Vegas Monorail, so getting to the Strip was ridiculously easy. Plus the location is quiet, which feels like a luxury in Vegas. The beds? Amazing. The rooms? Super comfortable. And since we are Marriott people (Titanium level… not to brag), it felt right at home. Honestly, we liked it so much we’ll probably stay there again. Quiet location. Close to everything. Zero regret.

The Shopping Freeze That Wasn’t

Now, let’s address the elephant in the room. My husband has me on a shopping freeze. In theory. In reality…all it takes is a little alcohol and somehow his credit card magically appears in my hand. Strange how that happens. This trip’s “completely necessary purchases” included:

  • Tom Ford sunglasses from a cute shop in The Venetian Las Vegas

  • A Gucci necklace I’ve been eyeing

  • The cutest Tory Burch sandal sneakers

Listen. If you’re in Vegas, you have to lean into the lifestyle a little. Retail therapy is basically cardio.

Two Restaurants We Always Go Back To

Vegas has amazing food, but there are two places we never skip.

Meat Lovers Paradise

Dinner at Galpão Gaucho Brazilian Steakhouse in the Fashion Show Mall was outstanding! Servers walk around with skewers of premium meats and slice them right at your table until you physically can’t eat anymore. If you leave there hungry, that’s honestly a personal failure. And for the quality, it’s surprisingly reasonable.

Seafood at Caesars

We also always make time for Amalfi by Bobby Flay.

Seafood lovers, this place is heaven.

The best part? You literally pick out your dinner from the fresh seafood display before they cook it. It makes dinner feel like a little culinary adventure every time.

Finally Riding the High Roller

After seeing it every single time we visit, we finally rode the High Roller. And honestly? It was awesome. We had a beautiful day, and slowly rising above the Strip while looking out at the entire Vegas skyline was surprisingly relaxing. For a city built on chaos, it was one of the most peaceful moments of the trip.

Fremont Street: Always a Show

Of course we had to spend a night at Fremont Street Experience. That place never disappoints. We grabbed dinner at Pizza Rock, which we love, and then wandered the street watching the usual Fremont entertainment:

  • Street bands

  • Crazy performers

  • People doing wild acrobatics

  • And of course… the classic Vegas sight of people confidently walking around with their entire backside hanging out

Honestly, Fremont Street alone is worth the people-watching. We didn't get to Circa this time, but if you haven't been, it's a must. No matter the weather, it's always a good time!

The Perfect Last Day

On our final day we decided to do something Vegas rarely encourages: relax. We started with massages at LV Thai Massage & Spa, which was exactly what our feet needed after walking miles up and down the Strip. Then we went to breakfast at Blueberry Hill Family Restaurant on Flamingo Road. And I’m not exaggerating when I say this…It was the best French toast I’ve ever had! Vegas may be known for gambling, but apparently it also quietly dominates the French toast game.

Our Final Verdict

Vegas is still fun. But the prices keep climbing and the slot machines feel tighter every trip. At some point you start thinking about how that gambling money could turn into something you can actually show for it.

A trip.

A memory.

A pair of sunglasses you absolutely didn’t need.

So for now, we think we’ve had enough Vegas for a while.

Because honestly? I’d rather spend money on experiences I can remember… instead of watching it disappear into a slot machine like I just threw it straight out the window. But let’s be honest. We’ll probably be back someday.
